Terms of Service
Last updated: April 29, 2026
Short version: use TapYap for talking to people you actually know. Don't harass anyone, don't break the law, don't try to break the app. We can suspend accounts that do those things. The service is provided "as is."
1. The deal
TapYap is a chat app operated by Tap Yap, Inc. ("TapYap," "we," "us"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
2. Who can use TapYap
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, whichever is higher) to use TapYap. By using the service you confirm you meet this requirement.
If you're under 18, you should have a parent or guardian's permission. TapYap is not designed for users under 13 and we don't knowingly accept their data — if you become aware a child under 13 has created an account, please email support@tapyap.com and we'll delete it.
3. Your account
Your TapYap identity is generated locally on your phone. You don't create an account in the traditional sense, and we don't verify your real-world identity.
You're responsible for whatever happens on your device. If your phone is lost or stolen, anyone with physical access can use your TapYap. We don't have a recovery flow that bypasses physical possession of the phone — that's a feature, not a bug.
4. What you can't do
You agree NOT to:
- Harass, threaten, or stalk anyone using the service
- Impersonate someone else's identity in your display name or avatar
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose, including distributing illegal content, planning illegal activity, or violating intellectual property rights
- Send unsolicited bulk messages, ads, or "spam" to your tapped contacts
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or modify the app except to the extent applicable law expressly permits
- Try to break, probe, or stress-test our infrastructure (we offer a vulnerability disclosure path — see §10)
- Build tools that bulk-extract user data from the app
- Scrape, copy, or republish other users' profiles, photos, or messages
5. User content
You retain ownership of everything you send: your messages, photos, voice notes, group names, etc. By using TapYap, you grant us a license to store, encrypt, transmit, and display that content only to the recipients you've sent it to and the devices they own. We don't claim any other rights and we don't use your content for advertising, model training, or any third-party purpose.
You're responsible for the content you send. Sending content you don't have rights to use (someone else's photos, copyrighted material) is your problem, not ours.
6. Bluetooth mesh routing
When the offline mesh is enabled, your phone may briefly relay other users' messages between nearby phones until the destination is reached. This is how the mesh works. By enabling the mesh you accept that your phone is acting as a network relay for nearby TapYap users.
7. Termination
You can stop using TapYap any time by deleting the app or following the data deletion flow.
We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if your account is used in a way that endangers other users, or if we're legally required to do so. We'll tell you the reason whenever we can.
8. Service availability
TapYap is provided "as is" and "as available." We don't guarantee uptime, message delivery within any specific timeframe, or that the service will be free of bugs. We try hard, but if our server is down, your messages may queue locally until it's back.
9. Disclaimers and liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, TapYap and its officers, directors, employees, and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service.
Our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the prior 12 months for the service. (TapYap is free, so this is generally $0.)
10. Reporting bugs and security issues
Found a security issue? Email security@tapyap.com. We don't have a paid bounty program, but we credit reporters publicly with permission and we won't pursue researchers acting in good faith.
Found a regular bug? support@tapyap.com.
11. Changes to these Terms
We'll post any material changes here and bump the "Last updated" date. If the change is significant we'll show an in-app notice on next launch. Continued use of the app after the change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA, without regard to conflicts of law principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts of Duval County, Florida, unless a different forum is required by your local consumer protection law.
